İstanbul / 1 July 2010
World Woman March European Feminist Gathering was made in Istanbul on 29-30th of June, 2010. Gathering which brought women together from 22 different countries who came together for justice and peace and against racism, militarism, violence and ignorance of woman labor ended with the march from Maçka Park to Galatasaray Circle.
At the general session on 30th of June of the gathering, Prof. Dr. Zeynep Direk from Galatasaray University Philosophy Department made a presentation on how Pınar Selek got feminism and activism together as a political method and life style. Direk emphasized that “Many things can be said on coming together, friendship, solidarity and acting together by setting out Pınar’s existence. This existence is personal as well as it is open to interaction with the others. Pınar is an intellectual who experience different ways of being with people and thinking on the new possibilities of this. Such an intellectual type is not a closed box or information treasure but engaged to social and political life. Pınar Selek’s political approach to social problems is not in a humanist way but from a feminist perspective”. She said that Pınar Selek’s works were effective for feminist and anti-militarist policies to gain importance in Turkey’s feminist movement. She underlined that “Pınar’s point of view has the power to make a hole on official ideology. We know that she is passing through a conspiracy and we are still witnessing her innocence”
