Press release in support of the feminist
and sociologist Pinar Selek

- Today there are imprisoned journalist I Turkey than I Iran and China. But it is
not only journalists who are persecuted by the authorities. Even other groups of
intellectuals are persecuted. Says Amineh Kakabaveh, Member of Parliament and
Left Party of Sweden.
Even researchers like the feminist political scientist Pinar Selek has been persecuted.
Her scientific work on the life conditions of women I Turkey has not appealed to
the authorities. She has been taken to court accused of “terrorism” founded on false
testimonies under torture. The witness has later recalled his testimonies.
- The accusations against Pinar Selek should be seen in the context of the so called
anti-terrorist of the the Turkish government. The Turkish Minister of Interior has
says that he regards politically critical intellectuals as “the backyard of terrorism”,
tells Amineh Kakabaveh.
- When a member of a government uses such a vocabulary against journalists,
scientists you have gone far in hostility against the freedom of art, science,
democracy and as in the case of Pinar Selek even against the UN Convention on
Woman´s Rights. The case against Pinar Selek must immediately be closed down,
