Support for Pinar Selek - the accusations must stop
Several activists from Macedonia are united in the support for Pinar Selek, a sociologist, researcher and writer from Turkey, who has been in the judicial labyrinth of Turkey for more than 14 years.
Tortured because of her research work, unjustly accused, released on several occasions and then again accused; she still faces a sentence of life imprisonment.
When refusing to give the names of the people she interviewed during her research on the Kurds in Turkey, Selek was tortured, while the entire process was covered with false reports and additional accusations on other cases, in which there are evidence that she had been unjustly accused.
Such an act is a direct violation of her rights, an attempt to nullify her efforts in the area of human rights, and more specifically women’s rights, her work with street children, sex workers, homosexual and transsexual people, as well as other minorities. This is an attack against the efforts for peace and antimilitarism. We must not allow such an injustice to happen.
Therefore, on January 24th 2013, on the next court proceeding, we shall give our support to Pinar Selek, together with many organizations from all over the world. Let’s help Selek fight for her justice, for her rights and the rights of all people she has worked so hard for!
