To the president of the Republic of Turkey
Mr Abdulah Gul
Dear Sir,
Pinar Selek is an outstanding sociologist and political activist. She is also true feminist fighting for women´s civil, democratic and human rights. As such she has been controversial and a challenge to a powers in the Turkish society which are enemies of democracy and women´s liberation. In different ways these powers, which you can find in the juridical system, which now for the second time are attacking her in an obviously unjust way. The authorities have put her into prison on false accusations and fabricating false witnesses given under torture twice.
The whole affair is absurd. Turkish authorities behave in a tragicomic way. The accusations are ridiculous but very serious when it comes to the credibility of Turkish authorities and when respecting democratic rights and women´s rights.
We demand that Pilar Selek must be released from accusations immediately.
