PEN International Women Writers' Committee wrote a letter to President of Turkish Republic. Here is the full text of the letter;
Your Excellency,
The PEN International Women Writers Committee is writing again because we are concerned for our Turkish colleague, the distinguished sociologist Pinar Selek., a member of our organization, PEN International, the largest worldwide association of writers. Her third acquittal has been overturned and again she is being called to court.
Ms Selek was accused of being involved in an explosion at a market in 1998, a tragic incident which experts say were caused by an accidental ignition of a gas cylinder, not a bomb as the prosecution claimed. She is an outstanding academic investigator and writer; she is not a violent person and there is no evidence that suggests that she was involved in the explosion in any way.
We believe Pinar Selek is being targeted for judicial harassment. We call for the charges against Pinar Selek to be dismissed permanently.
Sincerely,
Lucina Kathmann,
International Vice-President, PEN International
