Mrs. Maria Eleni Koppa, Member of the European Parliament, stated:

"I would like to express my strong support for Pinar Selek, not only as a member of the European Parliament, but also as a woman academic myself that firmly believes to the value of independent thought. After 12 years of prosecution and two acquittal decisions, it is just unacceptable to see her once more accused for a crime that clearly has not committed. At the European Parliament we are now following more closely her case and we call for the immediate dismissal of the charges. Selek Pinar is a defender of human rights and it is our responsibility to do everything possible in order to put an end to her suffering"
