Pinar Selek is facing -for the last 13 years- a conspiracy trial. She's accused of putting a bomb in a bazaar in Istanbul that killed 7 people and of 'being a member of a terrorist organization'. There are various reports showing that on the day of the explosion there was no bomb but a gas leak that caused the explosion. But the court is constantly re-opening the case and keeping her in the target position, hand in hand with the mainstream media. The person she is accused of preparing 'the bomb' together with, is free without further court procedures.
Pinar is a target because of her activism and her writings questioning 'sensitive' issues of Turkey..like the issue of peace, why peace is a difficult concept for Turkey, especially concerning Kurdish population; Pinar is a target because of her writings and her outspokenness about militarisation of everyday life in Turkey; because of her active involvement in forming (feminist) initiatives and alternatives, discussing the roots of patriarchy in the society; because of her being an active advocate of Transvestites and Transexuals against their mainstream media representations; because of writing, thinking and acting on all those issues together within these groups.
Maybe justice of a court is the last thing we believe in, but injustice is something we'll always keep fighting against.
